Dance

In-Day Dance Program

In the Pre-Primary and Lower Schools, students experience creative movement and elements of modern dance, jazz dance, and ballet techniques. In 6th and 7th grades students can choose to be a dance major where they learn jazz and hip-hop technique and get the chance to perform in the Fall Dance Showcase. 8th graders choose from a group of dance electives which include the option to study dance for the first trimester and perform at the all school Convocation and the Fall Dance Showcase. In the Upper School Physical Education classes, 9th and 10th graders can sign up for dance electives that include ballet, jazz dance, modern dance, hip-hop, tap, and choreography.  Upper school students can also take the dance elective, Exploring Dance, which covers important choreographic principals, as well as, the technique and history of several dance genres.

After School Dance

After School Dance classes are offered to Lower School in the spring, and the Middle and Upper Schools in the fall and spring. Creative Movement is offered to 1st graders, and jazz dance for grades 2-5. In the fall Middle and Upper School students participate in daily intensive classes in varying styles such as modern dance, jazz dance, ballet and hip-hop.  There is also an option to audition for the Friends School tap Troupe for the fall season.  All fall dance groups learn choreography which is performed in the Fall Dance Showcase.  In the spring grades 5 through 12 can participate in classical ballet classes which are offered in various levels of difficulty.

Dance Team

The Friends School Dance Team is a group of Upper School students chosen by audition in November. The Dance Team practices daily after school during the winter season learning jazz and hip-hop dances that are performed at the halftime of Upper School basketball games.

The Dance Team practices daily to learn new hip-hop and jazz dance routines. The team enhances school spirit by performing during halftime at the upper school basketball games.
