Drama

Drama is a joyful component of the arts curriculum for Lower Schoolers. Each of the 15 homeroom stages a play during the year. Depending on interest, an after-school drama club is also offered.

The highlight of the year for many Middle School students and their parents is the annual Dragonfly Theater. All students participate at some level in Dragonfly Theater, whether by singing in the chorus, acting on stage, playing in an instrumental ensemble, or designing sets. Parents support this effort in many ways—most importantly, as enthusiastic audience members.

In the Upper School, students can take Theater Workshop courses and participate in the fall theater production and spring musical. Advanced theater students have the opportunity each year to cast, produce and direct a mainstage play of their own choosing, with minimal assistance from a faculty advisor. Theater Workshop students perform for Lower and Upper School assemblies, as well as some off-campus extended day programs. Students interested in learning how to build sets and be part of the stage crew can participate in this activity at both the Middle and Upper School levels with the Upper School offering a Stage Craft elective.
