Counseling

Friends School’s comprehensive counseling program operates with a sensitivity to students’ different needs at each stage of their development. In the Lower School, our counselor provides private consultation to students, as well as their parents and teachers. Students who may be experiencing difficulties making friends, managing stress, getting along with siblings, or adapting to family changes are invited to participate in age-appropriate student groups, where they learn coping strategies in a relaxed and friendly environment. The Lower School counselor can also refer families to community resources for counseling, psychological or educational testing, and family therapy.

A group of fifth grade Junior Peer Educators help to promote self-esteem and responsible decision-making skills for Pre-Primary and Lower School students, giving them practice with the “ I to I” conflict resolution process. A similar group of fifth grade Junior Peer Educators in turn implement this program for Pre-Primary students, teaching them the “ I to I” conflict resolution process.
