Counseling in the Middle School follows the division’s dedication to the care and support of the whole child. The goal of our counseling support is to connect students and their families with appropriate services to help them navigate Middle School life. Homeroom faculty advisors oversee student’s academic, social, and emotional well-being. A learning specialist provides academic counseling for students, teachers, and parents. A counselor is available 4 days a week to provide emotional, psychological, and social support for the students (and often their parents). Other administrators with counseling degrees also serve as counselors.
A course called Group occurs at every grade level to address issues of wellness, relationships, sex education, drug and alcohol abuse, decision making, service to others, and social justice. A select group of Upper School students serve as Peer Educators, providing mentoring and age-appropriate lessons to Middle School students to help promote self-esteem and decision-making skills.
