Student Services:

Learning Specialist

The middle school learning specialist serves as a vital support for students, parents, and faculty.  The learning specialist’s main focus is on supporting and advocating for those students with special learning needs.  Some students with these needs will take a course called Learning Lab.  Learning Lab, offered at all three grade levels, provides vocabulary enrichment, additional reading and writing instruction, reinforcement of study skills, and guided work on content area assignments. A variety of texts, workbooks, and teacher-made materials are used. Students taking Learning Lab do not take a Foreign Language.  The learning specialist is also available to students outside of the Learning Lab, who need support in areas such as note taking, test taking, and reading comprehension.  The learning specialist also acts as a professional development trainer for the Middle School faculty to help them meet the needs of all students in their classes.
