Join us in the Forbush Building's "senior hall," just outside the Auditorium, a 9:00 am for coffee, hot cocoa and juices (courtesy of Wegmans).
At 9:15 we will gather in the Auditorium for a special opening led by some of our 9th graders. At 9:45 we will break into our activity groups.
Bring your creativity and join us to make cards and letters of well-wishes for patients at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. We will supply everything needed to decorate cards and include cheerful messages to sick kids in our community. Cards will be delivered later that week to JHHC.

Join us as we support the Believe In Tomorrow Foundation by lending a helping hand at The Children’s House at John’s Hopkins Hospital. This is a special addition to our MLK Day of Service in memory of Scunny McCusker who was a huge supporter of Believe in Tomorrow. We will be cleaning the house and baking goodies for the families in residence. Please bring all the ingredients for one or two of your favorite quick bake goodies (could be a family recipe or even break-and-bake cookies). All the baking supplies (measuring cups, bowls, pans, etc…) will be provided.

This group will make no-sew blankets from fleece fabric to donate to The Welcome Project who then donates them to the Ronald McDonald House. We hope to make 40 blankets! If you can, bring a good pair of fabric scissors to share. Fabric will be provided. The student leaders of this project will join the group. The Welcome Project

Come make friendship bracelets and cards for children in Managua, Nicaragua. This activity will be led by Dylan Waugh, Friends alum and founder of VISEDAL Partnership, a nonprofit that serves children who have been forced to drop out of school to beg for money on the streets. VISEDAL empowers children to become leaders in their communities through education and guidance from its program coordinators. All supplies will be provided.VISEDAL

You are invited to make winter crafts with residents at Manor Care Roland Park, a senior living facility. They would like 10 children accompanied by their parents. This activity has been moved to the afternoon to better meet the needs of the residents at Manor Care. Manor Care

Join in a spirited sing-a-long at Stadium Place, a senior living facility operated by GEDCO. The group will rehearse before departing. This activity will be led by Paul Yutzy and John Bonn.

Location: We will meet in Middle School classroom 210 to rehearse then each family will drive to Stadium Place, 1020 E. 33rd Street. You will go to the Weinberg Court Apartments. Directions will be provided at rehearsal.
Work on service projects (making peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for the homeless;sorting clothing) at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Housing & Resource Center building, across the street from Our Daily Bread Employment Center. Jobs, Housing & Recovery, Inc. (JHR) operates the largest emergency homeless shelter for adult men and women in Baltimore at the Weinberg building. The activities will be led by a shelter staff member and will include a tour of the facility. Note: anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This may not be an appropriate activity for anyone with a peanut allergy.
Jobs, Housing and Recovery, Inc.'s Housing Resource Center
Ages: grade 8 and above

Location: The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Housing & Resource Center, 620 Fallsway, Baltimore, MD 21202 Meet there at 10:30. Free parking is plentiful behind the building and the entrance is located behind the building as well.
Participants will receive a tour and orientation at this downtown soup kitchen. Afterwards, they will help serve a hot meal to the center's clients. Following table bussing and clean up, volunteers will enjoy lunch(the meal that was prepared). This activity is for participants age 14 and up. Students age 15 and up may participate without an adult.
Our Daily Bread

Location: This group will meet at Our Daily Bread Employment Center, not at Friends School. Participants need to be there, 725 Fallsway, 21202, no later than 9 am when the orientation program will start.
Each family should bring in 4 baked chicken breasts (can be bone in or boneless), 6 cups of cooked rice, 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, and 1 packet of dry onion soup mix. We will provide the other ingredients and pans. After working together to assemble the casseroles, a smaller group will deliver them to Our Daily Bread and get a tour of this downtown soup kitchen and employment center. The tour will be limited to 40 people. Please register for this separately and allow first priority to those who have not toured before. Another group of Friends families will be there serving lunch. This activity, including the tour, will conclude @ 12:30pm.

Each family should bring in 1 can of red kidney beans, 2.5 lbs of cooked ground beef, 1 32oz can of ketchup and 1 onion chopped and sautéed. We will provide the other ingredients and pans. After working together to assemble the casseroles, a smaller group will deliver them to Our Daily Bread and get a tour of this downtown soup kitchen and employment center. The tour will be limited to 40 people. Please register for this separately and allow first priority to to those who have not toured before. This group will meet at the Helping Up Mission (HUM) at 10:00 am, where they will receive a tour and serve lunch. Once the men have been served, the group will join them for lunch and conversation. This group will prepare and serve a hot lunch at this comprehensive resource center serving homeless and poor women and their children. Volunteers should plan to be at My Sister’s Place from 10:30am to 1pm for the lunch shift. Participants must be age 14 or older.

Location: Meet at My Sister`s Place which is located at 17 W. Franklin Street, Baltimore 21201, in the building formerly occupied by Our Daily Bread.(carpooling from Friends may be available.)There is on street parking as well as a garage located next door.
This group will prepare 400 bag lunches for delivery to homeless shelters. Each family is asked to bring two 3 lb. bags of apples that will be included in the lunches. After loading the boxes of lunches in cars, we will need some of the volunteers to deliver the lunches to the five sites:
St.Rita's Supper Table, Prologue, Helping Up Mission, Sarah's Hope, and My Sister's Place

Join others to glaze pottery bowls for donation to Empty Bowls, a fundraiser for the programs of St. Vincent de Paul. A representative from St. Vincent de Paul will be present to explain the project.

A group of 10 people from Friends will join others to work with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake for the full day. We need at least two adults in our group and the minimum age to participate is 16. Prior skills or experience are not required but are a plus. Wear old clothes and bring a lunch. Each volunteer needs to read, print out and bring the waiver on Jan. 21.Waiver

Location: Location will be determined by the needs of Habitat and this will be communicated to those who register closer to Jan. 21.
Prepare and freeze (use disposable pan) or purchase a frozen 13” x9" casserole of any kind and deliver to Friends on Mon., Jan. 21, 8:45-9:15 am. Label top with date, type of casserole (ex. Chicken & Rice) and if it is already cooked or not.
Drop-off will be located at the Lower School Friendship Wall (adjacent to LS drop-off/pick-up lane). Casseroles will be taken to Our Daily Bread Employment Center.
Note: casseroles MUST be delivered frozen. If you are participating in service activities please drop-off your casserole before coming to the auditorium.
