FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 4, 2011
Baltimore, MD—Fifty dynamic works of art that include drawings and wood carvings will be available for purchase in the Art at Home exhibition on June 10 and 11, 2011, at 5743 Maplehill Rd. Baltimore, MD, 21239. This exhibition celebrates the creativity, innovation and skill of Baltimore fine artist and Friends Middle School art teacher Espi Frazier.
Art at Home comprises an impressive array of illustrations, including a Josephine Baker print series along with a new body of illustrations themed around connections to the world in which we live. In addition, several unique and intricately designed relief wood carved doors and screens are also featured. Frazier works have been exhibited at a variety of venues, including Maryland Art Place, Smithsonian Anacostia Museum and the Folk Arts Gallery in Syracuse, NY.
"I am excited about hosting this show of my works, says Frazier.”My home is my studio and so this is a very personal exhibition that allows visitors to see where I work and how I create."
A native of Chicago, Frazier completed a B.F.A. at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an M.F.A. at the Maryland Institute of College of Art. A Baltimore resident for the past 20 years, she developed in the 1980s a "wood graphics” process that uses colored inks, mosaic tiles, glass, beads and copper nails on relief wood carvings.
Frazier attributes artist Charles White as a strong inspiration of her work. "His understanding of light, shadow, and depth of emotion was powerful and showed me the importance of mastering the ability to draw well all the time," she says.
Frazier’s work has been showcased on HGTV Modern Masters; WJZ-TV Art International's Art Competition; and Contemporary Craft Masters. Her work is also in several private collections.
