Baltimore, MD—Friends School will present one of the classics of the American musical theater, “Fiddler on the Roof,” on Friday and Saturday evening, May 13-14, at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $ 5 for students, and may be purchased at the door or may be purchased in advance by clicking here.

Based on the story “Tevye and his Daughters” and other tales by Sholem Aleichem, and featuring music and lyrics, respectively, by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the story is set in 1905 pre-Revolutionary Russia, and centers on Tevye, a poor Jewish peasant, his wife, Golde, and their five daughters as they cope with their harsh existence under Tsarist rule.

Featuring such beloved tunes as “Tradition,” “Matchmaker,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “To Life!”, the production boasts a large cast of more than 50 students performing on the stage, not including those involved on the crew or in the pit, performing side-by-side with professional musicians. Veteran actors Eric Ritter ’12 and Isabel Taeger ’11 play Tevye and his wife Golde; Molly Farrugia ’13 is their oldest daughter, Tzeitel, Abby Preston ’12 is her sister Hodel, David Socolar ’12 is Motel the tailor, Declan Meagher ’12 is Perchik the Bolshevik revolutionary student, Will McAllen ’12 plays Lazar Wolf, the butcher, and Kate Myers ’11 is Yente.
