Lower School to Begin Teaching Foreign Language in 2012-13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 10, 2011

Baltimore, MD—Beginning in the 2012-13 academic year, Friends Lower School will incorporate a foreign language component in its in-day curriculum. The announcement was made by Head of School Matt Micciche. “Foreign language instruction has long been a critical component of a Friends education,” he explained. “Now, thanks in large part to the proposed changes in our school-wide schedule that will take effect in 2012-13, we can offer this enrichment to Lower School students in addition to, and not in place of, other important aspects of our balanced college preparatory program.”

At this point, many details and decisions about the Lower School foreign language program are still to be determined. A committee of faculty and administrators from all three divisions has been appointed to develop recommendations on the language(s) to be taught, and on the ideal structure and staffing for the program. Friends School will be seeking input from families on these questions and we will keep the community posted as we move forward in this process. For more information, contact .
