Baltimore, MD—In its Friday season opener against long-time rival Park, Friends’ Varsity Field Hockey team looked to dominate the game with several scoring opportunities in the first half, but Park came through and went up 1-0. The Quakers came back after halftime ready to score. With 15:34 left on the clock, Sarah Emrich ’12 had a beautiful insert to Molly Farrugia ’13, who then dished it back to Sarah for a beautiful shot past the goalie to tie the score. The game then went into a ten minute overtime, during which the Quakes had two penalty corners but could not find the goal.
Zari Press ‘14, Sarah Lambros ‘13, Lauren Linehan ‘14, and Ana Garcia-Moreno ‘13 held down the defensive end, while Sarah Emrich and Claire McGagh ‘12 controlled the midfield with crisp and accurate passes. On the front line Olivia Reed ’13 and Rebecca Handa ’13 showed aggression and tenacity in the circle. Ellie Polack ’13 and Claire Shaffer ’12 came off the bench and showed strong play in the forward line. Lynn Cullen ’15 showed tremendous stamina and speed within the field throughout most of the game. The Lady Quakers next take on Mt. de Sales on Wednesday, September 14 at 4 p.m.
