Girls' Varsity Indoor Soccer Team Clinches #1 Playoffs Seed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 2, 2012

Baltimore, MD—The A Conference Indoor Girls’ Varsity Soccer team finished its undefeated regular season yesterday with a 3-1 win over John Carroll.  John Carroll struck first 30 seconds into the game on a free kick.  Moments later senior Lucy Klein led a 3v2 counter attack and found freshman Mia Mangione on a give and go to the corner.  Mia quickly laid the ball back across the box into Lucy’s stride and Lucy smashed it into the far corner of the net, tying the game at 1’s. Five minutes later Friends scored the go-ahead goal with Mia Mangione taking the ball down the left flank and turning her defender inside out with a series of cuts, freeing herself up in front of the goal.  Mia then slid the ball past the John Carroll goalie giving the Quakers a 2-1 lead going into half.  John Carroll dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half but the Quaker defense, led by sophomore Mackenzie Gerrity, senior Sarah Wallack, and senior goalkeeper Aislinn Cook, were as solid as they’ve been all year.  After weathering the storm, Friends began to take the momentum back.  With seven minutes left to go in the game freshman Kailie Saudek turned a John Carroll defender over inside that team’s final third and fired a shot to the lower left corner of the goal sealing the 3-1 win for the Quakes—and with it, the #1 playoffs seed.

The team will play a semifinal match against NDP on Wednesday, February 8th at 3:45pm @ Du Burns Arena.  This is a special team that plays an exciting brand of soccer. We would love your support to help see us through to the final!
