Habitat for Humanity

The Friends School Habitat for Humanity Club seeks to address the problem of affordable housing in Baltimore City. In partnership with the Park School, we aim to raise money in support of Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity’s building projects, provide labor on build sites, and serve as advocates for housing issues in Baltimore. Our schools are co-sponsoring a house in the Patterson Park neighborhood that will be dedicated in the spring of 2009 and we hope to lay a foundation for future house sponsorships with CHFH. We also want to involve our entire school community to help us achieve our goal of simple, decent, affordable housing for everyone. This mission is consistent with our Quaker values and allows us to let our lives speak.

1. Building

  • Saturday Build Dates (once a month)

2. Fundraising

  • Mid-Summer Music Fest (Aug)
  • Restaurant Night (Oct/Nov)
  • Hollyfest Booth (Nov)
  • Pledge a Point/ Concessions at Friday Night Basketball games (Dec-Feb)
  • 5k Run (April)
  • Collaborating with the Upper School Senate and other clubs
  • Coffee Houses
  • Corporate Sponsorships/In-kind donations

3. Advocacy

  • Educating the Friends community
  • Collaborating with Baltimore Schools for Baltimore (a coalition of Baltimore schools Habitat for Humanity clubs)

Friends School Habitat for Humanity

HabiPainters is a fund-raising initiative involving Middle and Upper School students:

  1. If you need a room or part of a house painted, contact us to set up a walk-through. A student leader and faculty member will go over the job with you.
  2. You provide the paint. We provide the student labor.
  3. Here’s the best part: all the painting costs you is a donation to Habitat for Humanity. Every dollar you donate goes directly to building supplies for the house we’re co-sponsoring.
  4. Be our best salespeople and pass the word on to friends and neighbors who also need painting jobs completed.
