Friends School Welcomes Robert Berman '88 as the Keynote Commencement Speaker

Friends School is honored to welcome alum Robert Berman ’88 as the keynote commencement speaker on June 2, 2024.

Rob is an Emmy and Grammy Award-winning New York-based conductor and music director. For fifteen years, he was the music director of Encores!, New York City Center’s acclaimed series of great American musicals in concert. Here, he conducted over thirty productions, including the recent revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods, which transferred to a Broadway production, and for which he received a Grammy Award as co-producer and conductor of the cast recording. Rob credits Friends School for his success in the music industry and is a dedicated advocate for the School.

Rob consistently supports Friends School, attending events and volunteering, both with his time and through financial support. Most recently, Rob joined a panel of LGBTQ+ alumni who spoke to our Upper School Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) in 2021 and was recognized with the Friends School Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013. Most recently, he attended the Upper School musical, Once Upon A Mattress, and stayed to do a Q&A with the cast and crew.

We look forward to Rob’s keynote address and having him back on campus. We invite all families, friends, and alumni to celebrate the Class of 2024’s Commencement on June 2 at 5:30 p.m. on the Middle School lawn. Tickets are not required.
