Friends School’s Director of College Counseling Darryl Tiggle Featured on Dartmouth College’s Podcast Admissions Beat

At Friends School of Baltimore, preparing students for life beyond high school is a deeply personalized process. Our graduates attend top colleges and universities, though we recognize that finding the right fit is not a one-size-fits-all journey. The School’s dedicated College Counseling team works closely with each student, helping them select schools that align with their academic, personal, social, and financial needs. This individualized approach takes time and care, but the results speak for themselves. Friends students are accepted to a wide variety of excellent institutions, and many receive generous offers of need- or merit-based scholarship support from schools that are very eager to have them.

Leading this effort is Darryl Tiggle, the Director of College Counseling, who has guided thousands of students through the college admissions process during his 15 years at Friends. Darryl is passionate about sharing his knowledge to make the college admission process more accessible and less mysterious. He has a special interest in how the admission process is perceived from the student and parent perspectives and is known for putting families at ease.

Nationally recognized for his expertise, Mr. Tiggle has been featured in numerous publications, including the New York Times best-selling book “Who Gets in and Why.” In 2021, he was honored as a "Counselor Who Changes Lives" by the Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL) organization. Mr. Tiggle’s extensive network of college admissions professionals and experience working with highly selective institutions such as Dartmouth College and Middlebury College gives Friends students unparalleled insight into the admissions process. He has also served on prestigious scholarship selection committees for schools like Davidson College and Lafayette College. His expertise extends beyond his work at Friends, as he regularly trains new admissions professionals and presents workshops for national organizations like The College Board and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. He sits on the advisory board for the College Board’s College Counseling Advisory Group (CCAG) and their Counseling Admissions Advisory Council (CAAC).

This week, Mr. Tiggle was a featured guest on Dartmouth College’s Admissions Beat podcast in the episode titled "Start Your Engines: Accelerating from Discovery to Application." Alongside host and veteran dean of admissions Lee Coffin and Jennifer Simons, Director of Bright Horizons College Coach, Mr. Tiggle offered guidance to seniors navigating the critical elements of their college applications—from essay drafts and teacher recommendations to testing strategies. With October just a week away, the episode provides valuable insights for students as they navigate the college application journey, highlighting the importance of thoughtful planning and strategic decision-making.
