Lucy D. ’30 Profiles Peter Kaestner ’71, Wins Award for Superior Feature Writing

Congratulations to Lucy D. ’30 on winning an award for Superior Feature Writing in the 2026 Journalism Education Association Junior High/Middle School National Media Writing Contest! Her winning article, "Friends Alum's 9/11 Ordeal Inspired Hit Musical," profiles Peter Kaestner ’71's experience aboard a plane that was diverted on September 11, 2001.

Lucy's article was published in the Friends Middle School newspaper, The Raspberry Donut, of which she is a reporter, and reprinted online in the Friends Upper School newspaper, The Quaker Quill, during the 2025-26 school year.

This year, out of 315 students who submitted entries to the Junior High/Middle School National Media Contest, Lucy was just one of 48 students to earn a superior award. See the full list of winners here.

Congratulations on this incredible achievement, Lucy!
