Semir I. ’26’s Experience with the School for Ethics and Global Leadership

The School for Ethics and Global Leadership (SEGL) is a selective, semester-long residential program for motivated high school juniors from across the country, where chosen students are provided with a unique curriculum emphasizing ethical thinking skills, leadership development, and international affairs in three locations: Washington, D.C., Johannesburg, South Africa, and London, England.

A number of Friends School of Baltimore students have participated in this program, including Semir I. ’26, who lived in their London location during the fall of 2024 and recently authored a SEGLette Story about his experience on their website.

From its history as the seat of the British Empire to its present-day role as a global center of finance, culture, and politics, SEGL in London provides students with an immersive educational experience rooted in place and purpose. The program invites students to study ethics and leadership, economics and finance, and the arts through both classroom learning and direct engagement with the city around them. Living and studying in London means navigating one of the world’s most diverse urban environments, meeting professionals and experts across disciplines, and forming lasting friendships through shared exploration and discovery.

"At my home school, I've known everyone there for a long time," wrote Semir in his feature. "But doing this thing where you meet people from all these different states, schools, and backgrounds opened my eyes to what people my age are like all around the country."
