This year, Lily Baharlou'22 joined the lab of Dr. Joe Stains, a research scientist in the departments of orthopedics and physiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center for her senior work project.
Lily has been working on familiarizing herself with the research tools used for assessing how bone cells signaling is assessed. Specifically, she has been working on how osteocytes transmit bone building cues into signal transduction cascades that permit new bone formation.
Of Lily, Dr. Joe Stains says “Every single person in the lab was truly impressed with Lily’s ability to learn complex topics, master a preposterous amount of scientific jargon, and ask insightful questions. It is a testament to her maturity, intellectual capacity and preparedness. On top of that, Lily was a delightful person to have in the lab and she fit right in with all of our staff.”
We look forward to hearing from Lily about her experience as seniors present their senior work projects!
