Upper School STEM Speaker Series Welcomes Transportation Safety Engineer, Disc Golf Enthusiast

As part of the Upper School STEM Speaker Series, we welcomed TJ Sebastian, a transportation safety engineer and a disc golf physicist and enthusiast. Sebastian currently works as an engineering specialist at STV, Inc. As a physics major turned engineer, Sebastian explained how he turned an academic career full of failure into a professional career specializing in it, while teaching students about linear motion, momentum, angular kinematics, and more. Sebastian also discusses physics as a hobby in addition to a career, including the history and science of disc golf, how different discs serve different purposes, and how disc golf serves to keep his passion for physics alive.

Each year, Friends School's STEM Speaker Series hosts guests from a variety of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields who share their professional journey and details about their research and work with interested students. Fields represented include astronomy, engineering, medicine, neuroscience, genetics, biology, and a variety of other disciplines.
