Plus, working at camp is a great way to grow your resume. You’ll have experience working with a variety of people cooperatively in a team environment, providing great customer service and communicating with campers, families, and peers. Our camp staff are empowered to lead activities, cultivate an inclusive and safe environment, and to develop problem solving skills.

What positions are available?

Group Staff

Special Area Teachers

Teachers and Instructors who lead daily classes in one special area. These staff members are scheduled to see multiple groups each day, and are responsible for planning and leading fun camp lessons for their assigned groups with support from the Group Staff. Flexible teacher driven curriculum allows our staff to explore their favorite projects! Specialties include art, music, science, group games and more!

Technology and Fine Arts Teachers

Technology and Fine Arts Teachers work with an individual group of approximately 12 campers in one of our specialized Creative Technology and Fine Arts Programs. With support from the Group Staff they plan and lead activities for the Camp. Flexible, teacher driven curriculum allows our staff to explore their favorite projects! Specialties include: Robotics, Model Rocketry, Computer Animation, Photography, Visual Arts, Drama/Improv, and more!

Sports Coaches

Sports Coaches work with our Sports Camp and other day camps to lead age-appropriate instruction, drills, scrimmages, and games. Our coaches work with all ability levels and Group Staff to provide individualized instruction and attention to help our campers develop a love and understanding of the game! Some Specialties include: general sports, tennis, basketball, and soccer.

Leadership and Support Staff

Leadership and Support Staff help make camp a memorable experience for our entire community. These staff are not assigned to work with a specific group, but are instead on a rotation throughout several groups. They provide support for Group Staff, Special Area Teachers, and special events. They are also instrumental in supporting our camp traditions and daily operations. Examples include Program Directors, Lead Counselors, and Floating Counselors.

How do I apply?

First, and most importantly, we encourage you to apply early! We begin filling positions on a rolling basis, until all Summer at Friends positions are filled. Applying early will allow you to be considered for as many positions as possible.

We accept camp staff applications beginning in December. Applications are completed in the Camp Staff Portal. Once your application is received and reviewed, we make a decision on who to interview. Those selected will receive an email with an opportunity to schedule an interview. We typically start interviews in late January.

If you are offered a position, you’ll need to complete some pre-employment paperwork, background checks, and training. Our Camp Office Staff will assist you in this process. Our goal is to get paperwork returned and completed as soon as possible.

Need to complete an internship?

Our camp leadership team will work with approved candidates to secure the necessary permission from your school. Once placed and approved, we will connect you with your mentor and additional responsibilities to help you meet your internship requirements. This might be related to special projects, research, or a special report. This allows you to work at camp, build your resume, and continue to pursue your academic goals. Is there a dress code?

You’ll want to dress comfortably and professionally for the activities you’ll be doing at camp. Camp Staff are required to wear a camp staff shirt and closed toed shoes during the camp day. Each camp staff member will receive a free shirt, and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase extras if you’d like. For staff members going in the pool, a modest, comfortable swim suit is recommended.
