Student Health & Support Services

Our Student Support Services department is composed of dedicated academic specialists, counselors, and nurses, each assigned to different divisions. Our collective mission is to foster student success and well-being by advocating, collaborating, and facilitating their journey. We prioritize addressing various aspects of students' lives, including academics, behavior, social/emotional needs, and overall health.

Through personalized one-on-one sessions, small group activities, and school-wide initiatives, we provide comprehensive support to all students. Our goal as a department is to empower each student to unlock their full potential, nurturing their mind, body, and spirit.

Counseling Services

Friends School of Baltimore offers a wide-ranging counseling program to support the social and emotional learning, and mental health care, of all students. The counseling team uses a strengths-based, solution-focused approach, and honors the Light within each child.  Counselors are available to support students in their growth and learning, and provide:  individual and small group counseling; direct classroom instruction; consultation with faculty and families; collaboration with community clinicians; and division-wide programming. Two part-time counselors support Pre-Primary and Lower School, one full-time counselor serves in the Middle School, and two full-time counselors are available to students and families in the Upper School.  All counselors are licensed social workers, able to provide crisis intervention and clinical care to support students’ mental health and wellness.

Counselors can work with students on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Healthy relationships with ourselves, our bodies, and others

  • Conflict resolution

  • Communication skills

  • Perspective taking and empathy building

  • Emotional regulation and distress tolerance

  • Mindfulness and stress-management strategies

  • Values exploration and clarification

Learning Support Services

At Friends School of Baltimore, we are committed to nurturing a diverse community of learners. We value the unique contributions of each child and appreciate that students learn differently. Teachers work to understand students’ learning needs and design classroom activities accordingly. The learning specialists endeavor to support the specific needs of students through in-house resources as well as outside support.  They connect and integrate support services for faculty, students, and parents.   If children have had assessments prior to applying to FSB, we ask that parents and guardians share these as part of the admission process. This information and conversations with families help to provide a more complete picture of each student.
