Friends School of Baltimore is pleased to announce the creation of the Blackburn Merit Award, made possible by generous donors who believe strongly in Friends' mission to provide an extraordinary education for students of all genders. This award is named for Louisa Powell Blackburn, who served as the Head of School from 1889 – 1899, and was the first woman to hold that position. She was responsible for founding the Nursery School, which is the forerunner of the the School's PrePrimary division.
The Blackburn Award is for new students applying for the upper elementary grades (4th and 5th). Students must demonstrate outstanding scholarship and commitment to the mission and philosophy of Friends School. The Blackburn Award is a $15,000 award and can be renewed annually through graduation so long as the student(s) remain(s) in good academic and behavioral standing. Up to three Blackburn Awards will be offered for the 2021-22 school year.
