How is our Soirée Sustainable?
We will be...
  • going paperless
  • not using disposable products
  • utilizing seasonal produce
  • locally sourcing food
  • decorating with reusable materials
  • renting plants and trees as decor for our green event
  • planning in advance for a more accurate guest count to minimize food waste
  • encouraging the use of one glass all night (conserves water usage)
  • composting food waste
  • using recycled goods whenever possible
  • encouraging carpooling with other guests (which massively reduces the amount of vehicle emissions)
  • providing fun education about ways guests can reduce their carbon footprint
  • partnering with Green Print, who:
    • will donate 10 tons of carbon credit to offset our event. NOWF will release approximately 0.56 tons of CO2 into the air.
    • is investing in a regenerative agriculture project in Maryland and renewable energy on our behalf.

Night Out With Friends

You are cordially invited to the Parents Association signature springtime event; a gathering of Friends School parents, faculty, staff, and alumni and our annual fundraiser. Support this year's theme, raise awareness about sustainability and minimize our event footprint while enjoying cocktails, dinner, and dancing. You won’t want to miss the silent auction, which will feature themed baskets from each grade as well as a variety of other coveted items. Carbon-neutral fun is assured!  #NOWF2020

What does it mean to be sustainable?

The term “sustainability” embodies many attributes we foster and cultivate at Friends School: critical thinking about the future, collaboration with partners within and beyond our campus, and meaningful actions and behaviors that reflect our core values of simplicity, integrity, and stewardship.

The Sustainability Task Force at Friends School was formed to embrace this concept and support the school's ongoing efforts to conserve energy, reduce waste, protect our wildlife habitats, and discover opportunities to help shape current and future sustainability initiatives at Friends. Check out our school’s latest sustainability initiatives on the FS Sustainability blog.
