The return of Upper School students Zayda Greene '22 and Peter Micciche '22 from a 4-week exchange at The Friends’ School, Hobart in Tasmania, Australia marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for Friends School of Baltimore!
The new global exchange program between Friends School of Baltimore (FSB) and Monteverde Friends School (MFS) in Costa Rica, as well as The Friends’ School Hobart in Tasmania, Australia is one of several innovative initiatives stemming from the 2019 launch of the School’s strategic direction, Friends Connects. A central goal of this initiative is to help students “develop the skills and understanding needed to thrive in a global society.” The program, developed with the guidance of Global Community Research & Design team members, Jennifer Robinson, Director of Academic Technology and Libraries and Middle School teacher Laura Flenorl, will provide transformative global educational experiences for Friends students for years to come.
Each year a small cohort of FSB students will attend classes at MFS and Friends School, Hobart while living with host families and students. Likewise, students from these international schools will attend classes at FSB and live with host families and students in our community.
Zayda and Peter are the first FSB students to participate in the exchange, returning this month after a 4-week exchange in Tasmania, with a stop in Sydney (Zayda reports this was her favorite part of the adventure). Students from The Friends’ School, Hobart will arrive in Baltimore this winter.
