Haley Scott - SALT talk

On December 4th, Haley Scott DeMaria spoke to the Student-Athletes Leadership Team (SALT) about her tragedy and how to overcome obstacles. In 1992, as a freshman on the Notre Dame swim team, her world was literally turned upside down when a bus coming back from a swim meet overturned in a snowstorm just 2 miles from campus. Two members of the team lost their lives and Haley was paralyzed from the waist down. She was told she would never walk again, but her faith and determination had her swimming again less than 2 years later.

The book, What Though the Odds – Haley Scott's Journey of Faith and Triumph is a great read and tells not only about the accident but her journey of finding faith and family in places she could never have imagined.

We hope to invite Haley Scott DeMaria back to Friends in the future as her story not only resonates with our student-athletes but the entire community can learn from her recovery, courage, and faith. Her story and her positive spirit have also inspired a movie (Two Miles From Home).

After her talk, I wanted to see and hear more, so I found a couple of her talks/interviews online.
