Baseball is HOME!

For the first time in school history, baseball will be played on the Friends School of Baltimore Charles Street campus. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of too many people to name, (you know who you are), at 4 PM on Wednesday, March 4, the Varsity Baseball team will host Sandy Spring Friends on the newly constructed baseball diamond.

Nomads no more! Gone are the days of loading the bus to head off campus!

There is something magical about baseball, America’s pastime. Maybe because it means that springtime, and a world of new possibilities, is just around the corner? When asked about having a field on campus, Head Varsity Coach and Program Coordinator, Will Marbury, said, “A field on campus makes me feel like baseball is part of the school. We spent so much time driving back and forth to practice and games, with little fan support at games. I am looking forward to having our school see the talent and work that our players put into the program.”

Athletic Director Kara Carlin added, “From the day I got to campus in the summer of 2017, I heard from parents, students, and coaches that we needed to have a baseball field on campus. Before I arrived at Friends, I helped with the design and construction of a softball field on the St. Timothy School campus and saw firsthand the boost it gave that program. I was excited by the idea of adding a baseball field to our campus to better support the 50+ baseball players we have at Friends. With the wonderful support of Matt Micciche, Head of School, Carl Grant, Director of Facilities, and Will Marbury, Baseball Program Coordinator, this dream is now a reality! Today we are just one day away from hosting our inaugural game— on what the community now lovingly calls ‘Lawndale Yards’ thanks to Steve McManus—and it feels surreal. This is a step in the right direction for Friends School Baseball!”

Like the mysterious whisper beckons in Field of Dreams, “...if you build it, he will come.” Now, our very own field, and new home of possibilities, has been built. So come one, and come all! There are seats waiting for you just behind home plate or down the 1st and 3rd baselines.

“The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good and that could be again.” Well said, James Earl Jones.

Welcome to our yard, our Lawndale Yard, and PLAY BALL!!
