On April 17, 2020, the Friends School of Baltimore community came together virtually to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. The tradition of celebrating Earth Day dates back to the very first Earth Day itself, with the Class of 1970. The holiday, now celebrated internationally, is dedicated to preserving the planet and addressing the dangers of climate change.
Despite the limitations of distance learning, Friends School students and faculty got creative and put together a rich day of learning and activities to honor the spirit of the day. Some of these activities included creating an Earth Day Spotify playlist, a timely conversation on Racial Health Disparities and Covid-19, sewing face masks, solo nature walks, virtual backpacking, more. The unique day was another example of how deep the Friends School spirit of stewardship and community runs.
