Established in 2016, the Neumann Merit Award is named in honor of longtime Middle School teacher Doris Neumann H'98, who sought to instill in her students a genuine passion for inquiry and a willingness to serve others. Friends School is awarding $10,000 scholarships to two new students applying for grades 6, 7 or 8. This award will continue for the duration of their enrollment at Friends School.
Applicants considered for The Neumann Award will exemplify the qualities consistent with the mission and philosophy of Friends School and advance the School’s Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and stewardship. In addition, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a new applicant for admission to grades 6, 7, or 8
Demonstrate a proven record of strong academic achievement through current academic transcripts and ISEE scores
Share talents or passions that would contribute positively to the Middle School community
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants are required to complete the Friends School application for admission and the Neumann Award application (below) by January 15, 2017.
The Neumann Award Committee will determine the list of semifinalists by January 30, 2017. All semifinalists will be invited to an on-campus reception event for families in early February.
The Neumann Award recipients will receive notification of award with their admission decision on February 17, 2017.
The 2017-18 Doris Neumann Merit Award application is now closed. Updated scholarship information will be available this summer for 2018-2019 school year.
