ABOUT THIS LEAGUE:
This soccer program is suitable for all levels of ability except those who play at the CLUB/TRAVEL level.  We make an effort to balance the teams so that the games can be competitive. There are no practices outside of game day.  From its inception, this league has had as its goal in forming teams, the concept that children would prefer to play with friends.  In other words, in a large measure the players determine the teams. (No matter how teams are chosen—tryouts, drafts, age, experience, etc. the end standings in any league usually resembles a Bell curve—one team which wins nearly all of its games, one team that loses nearly all of its games, and the rest packed in between.)  We ask that you list friends your child would like to play with.  PLEASE LIMIT YOUR REQUESTS TO TWO OTHER FRIENDS.  We do our best to honor requests but cannot guarantee it.  If your application comes in with no other children listed, we will usually place your child on a team with children from his/her school.

LEAGUES, SCORING AND STANDINGS:
We do keep score and standings.  The players would do this anyway.  There are champions in the leagues.  Some leagues may have round robin schedules and some may have playoffs.  The set-up depends on the number of teams in any given age group. There will be five age-based leagues:

Quaker Cup
Charles Street Cup
Stony Run Cup
Gray Cup
Scarlet Cup
Players in this coed league typically are ages 6 – 7 with no or limited soccer experience.
Players in this girl’s league are typically ages 8 – 9 with some soccer experience.
Players in this boy’s  league are typically ages 8 – 9 with some soccer experience.
Players in this boy’s league are typically ages 10 – 11 with soccer experience.
Players in this girl’s league are typically ages 10 – 11 with soccer experience.

Players may play up or down one level, based on experience.  For example, an 8 year old with no soccer experience could play in the Quaker Cup, or a 9 year old with extensive experience could play up to the Gray or Scarlet Cups.  League placement is up to the parents, and players must play the whole season in the same League. We place players in the league requested on their application form. This allows parents to choose the most appropriate league for their child.
A minimum of 30 players per league is required.

WHERE DO WE GET COACHES?
The League will provide each team with a coach for each game. Coaches are typically high school or college students, many of whom are also counselors in our Summer at Friends camps. The coaches will take attendance, manage substitutions, and lead the pre-game warm-ups. Parent volunteers who would like to coach are welcomed to do so. Please check the volunteer box on the registration form. (If the team has a volunteer coach, the league-provided coach will act as an assistant.) We appreciate all parent volunteers!
