The Ozzie and Joe Cowan '64 Challenge Achieved!

March 2016 update:
Friends School is thrilled to announce that – thanks to the generosity of 46 donors – we have achieved the Cowan Challenge for the Ronald A. Friedberg ’64 Memorial Scholarship Fund!

In late October of 2015, Ozzie and Joe Cowan ’64 issued a remarkable $5-to-$1 challenge, matching all gifts to the scholarship up to $500,000. Named in memory of classmate Ronny Friedberg ’64, beloved friend, Honor Roll student, three-letter athlete, enthusiastic Quaker Quill writer, gifted concert pianist and male lead in the 1964 Mixed Chorus production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The King and I”, this endowed fund will now be able to provide annual scholarship assistance to one or more students of financial need who exhibit theatrical talent or performing arts promise.

Details of the Challenge:
The Cowan’s initial gift of $100,000, which established the scholarship, is the cornerstone of this generous 5:1 challenge.  For every $1 raised by our community for the scholarship, Joe and Ozzie will match it with $5, up to $500,000. Once achieved, the scholarship will provide students with an additional $25,000 annually in financial aid.
