Middle School Softball ties Roland Park Public, 7-7
Since starting their softball program, Roland Park Public School has now played Friends four times. Each game has been incredibly close. This latest game hosted by Friends was the closest yet, as the two teams finished in a tie.
After a walk and a strikeout to open the game for the Lady Rams, Emma Texter came up for the visitors and smacked a line drive to the left side of the infield. Third baseman Quinby Sohlberg ’21 made the fielding play of the game when she snatched it out of the air. A ground out to second baseman Leah Dumaine ’20 brought the Quakers up to bat.
With two outs and runners on second and third, Sohlberg singled to drive in one run. Another scored on the same play on a throwing error. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams got those two runs back in the top of the second thanks to four free passes and an error. Julia Parker ’20 closed out the inning with the bases loaded on two consecutive strikeouts.
Another error in the third inning led to a third run for the Lady Rams. The Quakers responded in their half of the third inning with five runs. The key blow was a single to centerfield by Sohlberg to plate two runners.
In the top of the fourth, six free passes and a single allowed the visitors to tie the score. Roland Park’s Emma Texter switched from third to pitcher for the Rams and closed out the game with five strikeouts and a ground out. Parker struck out the side in the top of the fifth for Friends. Now sporting a 2-1-1 record, Friends enters the busiest part of their schedule with games on Thursday, April 23, Monday, April 27, Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30.
