"I will never forget it!"-- 2016 grad performs encore with Yo-Yo Ma and BSO

Matt Musachio ’16, a principal performer with the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, was selected to play alongside Yo-Yo Ma during the artist’s June 15 Dvorak Cello Concerto encore at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The encore was a collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma, the BSO under the baton of Marin Alsop, OrchKids, OrchLab and the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra (BSYO). Describing the experience, Musachio said, “Before his arrival, of us BSYO kids kept turning our heads to the entrance in nervous anticipation. I have concertized with the BSO and violinist Joshua Bell before, but this event exceeded many of these prior experiences. I will never forget it!” Musachio is presently at Interlochen for the Violin Institute with Ara Sarkissian, Paul Sonner and Robert Lakatos. “When I return to Baltimore, I will continue to tackle my excerpts (Don Juan, Schumann Scherzo, Mozart Symphony 35) for my Oberlin Orchestra audition this fall and my work on my Mozart and Saint-Saëns violin concerti. It promises to be an exhausting but productive few weeks ahead.”
