Touching History

Upper School students enrolled in Introduction to Archival Work assist Towson University Special Collections staff in preparing and archiving primary sources, including this digitized collection of WWII letters, photographs, newspaper articles and other correspondence sent from enlisted alumni of the State Teachers College at Towson to the members of the school’s faculty. The class, offered through Friends’ University Partnership Program, allows our students to experience history in tangible ways, literally, and to develop empathy for those whose memories are preserved; In this case, for the soldiers -- living far from home who find comfort in connecting with their alma mater -- and for the adults who guided them on their journey to adulthood.
