Friends students perform with violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman and the BSO

Three Upper School musicians – violinists Max Jacobs ’17 and Renée Audette ’18, and trumpet player Max Rollfinke ’17—on Saturday, Sept. 17, performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and guest artist Itzhak Perlman during the BSO’s 34th Annual Gala Celebration concert to benefit its music outreach and education programs.

The Friends musicians, all members of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, performed in principal positions alongside Mr. Perlman and the BSO, led by music director Marin Alsop, for a rousing arrangement of the final movement from Beethoven’s 9th, arranged by BSO associate conductor Nicholas Hersch.

Approximately two-thirds of Friends Upper Schoolers participate in one or more music ensembles, including 52 students in String Orchestra, 134 in Concert Chorale, 30 in Chamber Choir, 37 in Wind Ensemble, 18 in Jazz Ensemble, and 9 and 10, respectively, in the Quaketones and the Pleiades, the School’s all-male and all-female a cappella singing groups.
