After back to back wins, Varsity Tennis falls to Beth T'filoh, 2-3

Girls Varsity Tennis on Tuesday, Sept 27 fell to Beth T’filoh, 2-3. “We had a terrific start in all the matches yesterday,” said coach Jon Hilzendeger. #2 doubles Abby Reibman ‘18/Rita Bendetti ’18 and #3 doubles AJ Goldbloom ‘18/Samantha Asher ’20 won their first set. #1 doubles Lucy Meigs ‘18/Julia Weinberg ’18 had a lead but lost their set. And both singles #1 Anne Tobin ’17 (7-6(6),6-3) and #2 Julianne McFarland ’17 (6-4,6-4) won their first sets and held on to win their matches. #1 doubles ended up losing. #2 and #3 doubles “just couldn't keep it together physically and mentally. We were right there. So close. They fought hard but just wore down from being tired. Those things happen,” said Hilzendeger.
In extra doubles play, Jimena Guallar-Blasco ’20/Riley Gerrity ’17 won 8-2, Amee Rothman ’19/ Annie Smith ‘18 won 8-0 and Sophie Lizmi ‘19/Carrie Wang ’19 lost, 8-7.

Playing back to back matches on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22 and 23, Girls' Varsity Tennis twice defeated Oldfields School, 5-0 and 4-1. Making their Varsity debut during Thursday's match, #3 doubles team of Annie Smith ‘18/Amee Rothman ’19 battled nerves to capture a 6-3, 7-6,(7) victory. The 2nd set tiebreak was back and forth all the way until the end, when the Quaker duo won back to back points to close it out. The Quakes #1 singles player Anne Tobin ’18 won easily 6-0, 6-0.

Although she defeated her #2 singles opponent, 6-2, 6-4, the previous day, Julianne McFarland '17 at #1 singles on Friday lost to a strong opponent, 6-1, 2-6, 1-6. The Quakers closed out the match with consecutive wins by #2 singles Lucy Meigs '18 (6-0,6-1), #1 doubles Abby Reibman ‘18/Julia Weinberg ’18 (6-7(4), 6-4, 10-5), #2 doubles AJ Goldbloom ‘18/Jimena Guallar-Blasco ’20 (6-0, 6-1) and #3 doubles Samantha Asher ‘20/Amee Rothman ’19 (6-1, 6-0).
