Friends Middle Schoolers are participating in the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering’s “Tower of Power in a Half Hour” competition – a city-wide contest to see which team of three students can build the tallest free-standing tower in 30 minutes using a 1 lb. box of spaghetti and 60 marshmallows. The winning team will be invited to recreate their tower and compete with undergraduate students, alumni, and faculty teams at the Tower of Power event on February 21, 2017. The students have until February 7 to submit their entries. In the meantime they are hard at work in teacher Andy Spawn’s room prototyping different structural designs in an attempt to best the tallest Friends entry to date at 123 cm. Stay tuned!
