Girls Varsity Basketball on February 3 defeated Park on the Bruins’ home court, 33-32. High scorers included Bria Randolph’ 19 and Katie Capizzi ’18 with 9 point each. Other highlights included a huge 3-pointer in the first half by Gabby Sklar ’20 and another big basket by Kendi Jafar ’20. Defensively Charessa Crosse ’19 played her best game and led the team in rebounding. Bria Randolph ’19 got into early foul trouble but to her credit stayed in the game and even managed to grab the most important loose ball of the night. Carli Freeman’s ’18 calming presence controlled the game down the stretch.
The Friends squad led the entire way, holding on at the end as Park threw everything they had at the young Quakers, according to coach Ken Zalis. “To come into your cross-town rivals’ place on their senior night in front of a loud crowd and come away with the win was huge for us,” he said. “We have struggled this season due to youth and inexperience but the team has stayed close and continued to work hard. Tonight was that payoff.” The team heads into first round playoffs on February 10. Stay tuned and GO QUAKES!
