Making their mark

The Middle School Girls Basketball team on February 8 capped their 2016-17 season with an outstanding 14-1 record after defeating Glenelg Country School, 35-11.“This group was simply amazing,” says coach Judy Turnbaugh. “Coach Julie [Goodenough] and I couldn’t be any happier with the way this young team came together. We’re so excited for next season with our returning players!” Baylee DeSmit ‘21, the team’s sole 8th grader, finished her middle school career with a total of 536 points, 242 of which were scored this season. Close behind her was Genique Gaither '23, who closed out the season with 196 points and led the team with assists. With Quinn Bryant ’23 and Dylan Barnes ’23, she was also among the leading rebounders on both ends of the court. Molly Parker ’23 and Elie Walsh ‘23 provided strong defense coming off the bench and pulling down rebounds. Our guards, including Annalisa Jenkins ‘22, Oluchi Ihenatu ‘23, and Divine Trewick ’23, improved on their ball handling skills with each game. Congratulations to the players on an outstanding season and many thanks to all who came out on game days. The future of Girls Basketball looks strong!
