Bye-bye birdie

Varsity Badminton on March 24 lost a hard-fought match against Garrison Forest, 4-3. Highlights included great wins by #2 singles Mary Budnitz ’17, #2 doubles Sofia Geocadin ’19 and Allie Mosmiller ’19, and #3 doubles Erin Farrugia ’17 and Elise Shattuck ’18. Keelty Wyatt ’18 lost a heartbreaker in three games at #3 singles. Said coach Tom Buck, “A bunch of players, notably Keelty [Wyatt ‘18] and Mary [Budnitz ‘17], played as well as I’ve ever seen them play. I can’t remember the last time I had two tenth graders playing #2 Varsity doubles. [I have] high hopes for Allie [Mosmiller ‘19] and Sofia [Geocadin ‘19].”
JV Badminton, also at home on the 24th,  suffered a similar 4-3 loss to the Grizzlies' JV. Highlights included three strong doubles performances by Taylor Tilson ’17 and Grace Apencha ’19 at #1, Ella Ciccarone ’19 and Sophie Lizmi ’19 at #2, and Tara Wright ’19 and Juliet Azé ‘19 (both playing the first match of their young badminton careers) at #4. #3 Emma Arnold ’19 and Ariella Chichilnisky du Lac ’19 narrowly lost in two close games. Said coach Jess Mateer, "I was proud of all my girls, especially Juliet and Tara coming up with a win against a perennially good team in their very first IAAM match!"
Both teams will head to NDP on Wednesday, March 29, for 4 pm matches.
