A sweet defeat

The Quakers were behind 10-7 as they came to bat against the Mt. Carmel Cougars in the bottom of the fifth and had scored only two runs over the previous two innings.
It was time for rally.
Sunny Moorhead ’21 hit a slow roller to the left side but her speed kept her safe at first. Sophie Sabundayo ’23 singled to third and Erin Wallace '22 walked on a full count to load the bases. That’s when Sophia Rosenberg ’21 singled to the pitcher to drive in a run and Annalisa Jenkins ’22 ground out-plated another run to draw the Quakers within one run of the Cougars.

With power hitter Molly Parker ’23 coming to the plate, the opponents' coach signaled his pitcher to intentionally walk her. That fateful decision put a lot of pressure on the pitcher, who proceeded to walk the next batter, Quinn Bryant ’23, on four pitches to tie the score.

With the bases loaded and the count 1-2, Abby Rosenberg ’21 hit a roller towards the pitcher. On a bang-bang play at the plate the catcher’s foot came off the bag prematurely as the other Rosenberg sprinted home to score the winning run.
