Jack Schreck ’17 again led the defense, causing 4 turnovers to go along with 4 ground balls. Owen McManus ’18 caused turnover, 2 ground balls and an assist. He and Jack Barrett ‘18, Carter Jones ‘19, Jake Hartman ’18, and Eli Sherbakov ’20, who had 5 ground balls, contributed on the defensive end with stellar ground ball play and great team defense. Short stick defenders Kavon Samuels ‘18, Paul Benzer ‘18, and Jack Benzer ’18 played particularly well. Goalies Dawson Bordick ’18 and Ross Blumenthal ’18 split time and kept the home team at bay, allowing just 6 goals in the contest. “With our first league contest being an away game, we put a lot of emphasis on winning the ground ball battle,” says coach Bill Ball. “Coming out on top 35-20 in the category really set the tone for the game and helped us control the pace of play. The coaching staff was very impressed with the effort each and every one of our players throughout the game.”
The team plays Gerstell in an away game today and will host Flint Hill School of Fairfax, Va. this Friday, 7:30 pm, for Friends’ first-ever Lax Under the Lights event. Be there!
