A passion for research

Dr. Samuel Patz ’67, a professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School, associate neuroscientist at Massachusetts General Hospital, and the scientific director for the Center for Pulmonary Functional Imaging at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, is this year’s recipient of the Friends School Distinguished Alumnus Award. Renowned for his cutting-edge work in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology, Dr. Patz accepted the award on Saturday, May 6 amid cheers from his Friends classmates and other graduates during the School’s annual Alumni Weekend festivities. During his visit to his alma mater, Dr. Patz presented his latest research to students during Upper School Collection, capping his talk with some words of wisdom. “Don’t be afraid to ask questions,” he told the students, “and pursue work that you love.” Click here to learn more about Dr. Patz’s research.
