On a day when the heat index topped 100 degrees, the Boys Varsity Soccer team on Tuesday, August 22 stayed cool and calm under pressure as they kicked off the season with an away scrimmage against the defending A Conference champion Calvert Hall.
The game was even for the first 15 minutes with each team only seeing one good scoring opportunity. Mike Klausner '18 just missed giving Friends an early advantage as did Sean Barwick for the Hall.
The Quakes took a surprising 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Steven Bogusky '18 made a nice run down the right hand side, cutting the ball to the edge of the box to an oncoming Jordan Finn '18, who fired it low and hard into the far corner of the goal.
The second half saw Friends hold on to its 1-0 lead as players tired. Despite the Cardinals’ deep bench and its many substitutions, the tightly matched teams saw few scoring opportunities and the Quakes held on to the win with a huge result. The team will scrimmage Chesapeake Science Point home on Thursday, August 24 at 4pm.
