Varsity Girls Soccer nets 3-0 victory in home opener
On a rain-soaked season opener the Girls Varsity Soccer team on Tuesday, August 29 defeated Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS) at home, 3-0. Both teams went into the match with much to prove: AACS finished its 2016 season 5 -9-1; the Quakers, 5-12-1.
Friends put on the pressure early on with many near misses until Zaria Dancer '20, in the 6th minute of play, hit the back of the next giving the Quakes a 1-0 lead. The Quakers continued to break down the Eagle defense with good ball movement and in the 20th minute McKenna Klausner '19 blasted a shot from the 18 that hit the net for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Klausner hit her second goal early in the second half bringing the Quakers lead to 3-0. From there the defensive back line of Christina McLoughlin '21, Bria Randolph '19, Brenna Firlie '18 and Seraya Makle '18 kept AACS at bay. Freshman goalies Fiona McManus ’21 and Sophia Rosenberg ’21 kept the sheet clean as the Quakes tied up a comfortable 3-0 win – a score that was kept close in large part to AACS goalie Arissa Hendershot’s terrific performance.
The team will host Chesapeake Science Point this afternoon, 4 pm, on Deering Field. Come out and show your support. LET’S GO QUAKES!
