Varsity Tennis overpowers Oldfields

Girls Varsity Tennis on Thursday, September 7 traveled to Oldfields School, where they defeated the Tigers and Dragons (they have 2 mascots), 5-0, in their first conference match. Both Anne Tobin ’18 and Samantha Asher ‘20, at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. “Anne used powerful serves to win most of the points outright. In the second set, she came to the net and closed out her volleys well,” said coach Aaron Smolarz. “Samantha moved her opponent all around the court mainly from her forehand.”

In Doubles play, #1 Abby Reibman ‘18 and Jimena Blasco ’20 played high percentage tennis and closed out points with strong net play to win 6-1,6-1. #2 Lucy Meigs ’18 and Amee Rothman ’19 hit many service winners and used consistent baseline play to win 6-1,6-0; and #3’s AJ Goldbloom ‘18 and Rita Bendetti ‘18 used steady baseline line play to defeat their opponents 6-2, 6-1.

The team will host Glenelg on Tuesday, September 12 for a 4 pm match.
