A flair for the dramatic

The  Boys Varsity Soccer team won its 10th consecutive game on Tuesday, September 19 after defeating rival Park School, 3-2, in overtime.  notched another win during a high-drama home game against
The Bruins got the better of the ball in the first 10 minutes and notched their first goal in the 15th minute after a through ball was played in between the Friends center backs and the Park forward capitalized on the Quaker center backs missed through ball.
Friends returned the favor with an equalizer from a corner kick as an Andrew Ayers’ ‘18 back post header found Paul Benzer ’18, who headed it in to tie the game 1-all. The Bruins then scored late in the first half to go 2 – 1 at the break after the Quaker defensive end miscommunicated, leaving the ball free for the Park striker to score.
Second half play saw the Quakers turn the heat up on a tiring Park and Friends tied it up, 2 – 2, after Steve Bogusky ‘18 volleyed in a well-placed long throw.
The game had many more chances with Friends coming close 3 times in the space of the last 10 minutes, but couldn’t get the go ahead goal as we head to OT tied 2 – 2.
A pressured Park kickoff earned the Quakes a corner as Mike Klausner ‘18 swung it back post and captain Owen McManus ’18 slammed it home for the winning goal. Friends remains unbeaten in conference play and in sole possession of 1st place.
