Nine members of the Friends School Class of 2018 have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for outstanding performance on the PSAT – the precursor to the SAT exam – which serves as the National Merit Scholarship competition qualifying test. The seniors, including David Gantt, Nathan Kapsin, Teddy Llinas, Cameron Matsui, Bennett Persons, Nisha Rao, Chloe Sabundayo, Anne Tobin, and Helena Ware, placed in the top 2% of the more than 1.6 million high school seniors who took the PSAT exam last fall.
The NMSC annually recognizes the 50,000 students with the highest scores on the qualifying test. The top 16,000 students are designated as Semifinalists and represent less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors. The remaining 34,000 are named Commended Students in recognition of their academic promise.
