Friends School athletics looks good!

Girls Varsity Soccer welcomed 12  9th graders to the team, and they are making an impact! The team surpassed their 2016 season win total of 5, and currently have an overall 7 – 5 record, including a 4 - 1 win vs. Mt. Carmel on Thursday.  The team is 3 – 5 in the IAAM B Conference and is optimistic about the rest of the season.  The 2017 season continues with 3 games in the next two weeks, concluding with a game against at Park on October 14. The team is ready to roll.

Cross Country:
Small in numbers, but fiercely competitive the Girls XC team has made great strides in 2017. In 2016 the team won only two races but has already equaled that this year. The team's hard work, including Saturday practices, have bonded them into a tight-knit group.  Coaches from other teams have noticed their great attitude, remarking, “ The team never gives up and always finishes with everything they have. They’re amazing.” Although the team has suffered losses to larger teams, they have been successful against teams of similar size.

Tennis:
Girls Varsity Tennis is in 2nd place, suffering their only loss to undefeated 1st place team, the Glenelg Dragons.  The team finished  6 – 4 in 2016 and expects to surpass that record in the next two weeks. They are currently 6-2 with 3 upcoming matches.  For the first time ever,  the team will have a “Friday Night Lights” match at Towson University vs. cross-town rival RPCS (Roland Park Country School) on October 6 at 7 pm (Admission is Free.)  Come on out to cheer them on!

Volleyball:
Girls Varsity Volleyball is currently in 3rd place. Last season they finished in 3rd place and went all the way to the conference championship game.  One of the season highlights was a 3 – 1 victory over B conference RPCS (Roland Park Country School).  The team has two important back to back matches coming up, both in the Quaker Dome, the first on October 16 against St. Francis (who beat them in the championship last year) and the second on October 17 against undefeated Glenelg. Come out and support the Quakes!

MIAA:
Football:
The Boys Varsity Football record currently stands at 1 -2.  The team is working hard and has shown tremendous improvement over last season. A dominant win over MMSD (Model Secondary School for the Deaf) and 2 hard-fought close games resulted in losses to conference powerhouse SJCP (Saint John's Catholic Prep).  The team has a big game coming up on October 27th, hosting  Mt. Carmel under the lights at Baltimore City Poly’s stadium at 7 pm.  Come support the team!  (Admission is free.)

Boys JV Soccer:
In 2016 the Boys JV soccer team was undefeated until losing to Boys Latin in the  Championship game. This year the team is once again undefeated at 7 – 0, including a 4 – 1 win over rival Boys Latin on September 6th.  The team will continue their 2017 season with three games in the next two weeks, replaying rival Boys Latin on October 16 on Deering Field.

Boys Varsity Soccer:
With a record of  9 –0 – 1, the team stands in 1st place in the MIAA B Conference, a solid  7 points ahead of second place Concordia whom they defeated  3 – 2 in early September.  They hope to repeat a win when they host Concordia today on Deering Field at 4 pm October 6. The team has outscored their opponents 25 to 9 so far this season and will continue their quest for an undefeated season, playing 4 games in the next two weeks including a game at Park School on October 14.

Cross Country:
The two time defending champions are at it again!  They are undefeated in 2017 with a perfect 9 – 0 record. In their last race, the team was led by Henry Griffith ‘20 who was first overall, Alex Prichett ‘19 who was second, and Carter Ruffin ‘19 who was third. They continue their quest for a Three-Peat when they head to Concordia on October 18.
