Volleyball upsets St. Frances

After losing to St. Frances twice last year – with the second (and more painful loss) occurring at the conference championship, the Varsity Volleyball team on Monday, October 16 defeated the Panthers at home, 3-2. Trailing 17-9 midway in the first set, the Quakers fought back with kills from outside hitters, Lulu Whitmore ‘19 and Hannah Goodenough ‘19, to take the set, 25-20. Things were looking grim in the second and third sets as the Panthers’ top-spin serves got the better of the Quakes, 12-25 and 17-25. A string of fourth-set kills by Emily Wolff ’18 sparked the Quakers into a scoring fury, handily winning the set, 25-10. The Quakers carried that momentum into the fifth and final set as Whitmore served 8 points in a row to give the Quakers a commanding 9-1lead. St. Frances tried to fight back but a stuff block and a kill from Goodenough closed out the last 2 points to give Friends a 15-8 win. The Quakes now sit in 2nd place as they head into Scarlet & Gray Day —Saturday, Oct. 21 — when they take on Mercy at 1 pm in the Quaker Dome. Come out and show your support!
