Join Friends, IRC for Human Rights Day Celebration Friday, Dec. 1
The Friends School William Penn Fellows and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) on Friday, December 1, will host a Human Rights Day Celebration from 6:30 to 9 pm in the Forbush Auditorium and surrounding lobbies. The evening of storytelling and community building will highlight the IRC’s humanitarian efforts through the eyes and personal accounts of its international clients – men, women, and children who arrived in Baltimore seeking refuge. The event is open to students, parents, alumni, and faculty. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. Click here to register. For more information, contact Amy Schmaljohn.
The IRC “provides opportunities for refugees to thrive in America. Each year, thousands of refugees are invited by the U.S. government to seek safety and freedom. Forced to flee conflict or persecution, many have survived for years against incredible odds. They step off the plane with next to nothing but their dignity, hope and determination. In 28 cities across the United States, the IRC helps them rebuild their lives.”
The William Penn Fellows is a leadership and social justice cohort comprised of Friends sophomores, juniors, and seniors who seek enriched service experiences. For more information about the application process contact Michael Paulson.
