Thirteen members of the Friends School Class of 2019 have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for outstanding performance on the PSAT, the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship competition. Nine of the seniors, including Ariella Chichilnisky Du Lac ’19, Mason Davis ’19, Steedman Jenkins ’19, Isidore Philosophe ’19, Alex Prichett ’19, Amee Rothman ’19, Emma Scherer ’19, Pace Schwarz ’19, Jack Smith ’19, Elliot Strahan ’19, and Lulu Whitmore ’19, are Commended Students and placed in the top 2% of the more than 1.6 million high school seniors who took the PSAT exam last fall.
The remaining two seniors, Ella Filardi '18 and Daniel Mertus '18, placed among the top 1%, or 16,000, of the 1.6 million students who took the PSAT and have been named National Merit Semifinalists. These students may now advance in the NMSC competition to the finalist stage, where they will eligible for one of 7,500 Merit Scholarship awards.
